To those who, three years after Donald Trump came to power, are wondering about the foundations of "Trumpism", the management of the coronavirus pandemic by the President of the United States could provide some elements of the answer. Between denial of reality, search for a scapegoat, omnipresence in the media, ousting of discordant voices, political approach, isolationism and short-term vision vis-à-vis the greatest health challenge of recent decades, Mr. Trump has, during the weeks past, given to see some of the aspects that have shaped his presidency since January 2017.
A mandate which confirmed what politicians and historians foresaw when he came to power: Trumpism is not just an ideology or a philosophy. Trumpism is also special in that it has installed at the highest level of the state a "rejection of standards", considered so far as the standard of democratic rules in the United States, said Sheri Berman, political scientist specializing in the history of social democracy and professor at Columbia University.
So Mr. Trump's tenuous connection to the truth, as well as his disregard for facts and science, is well established. On the third anniversary of his coming to power, on January 20, the American president had uttered 16,241 false claims or falsehoods, according to a dizzying tally from the Washington Post .
Even on a subject as essential as the health of his fellow citizens, he played on his ability to twist the facts: the Covid-19 will "disappear, like a miracle", he trumpeted on February 27; "We will have a vaccine very soon," he said on March 2, when all the experts are counting on research that can take at least a year. "All Americans can be tested," he said on March 7, before affirming on the 15th that "faced with this highly contagious virus, the situation [was] under control" . The United States was already counting their deaths. They have since become the epicenter of the pandemic.

Chinese representatives tried to influence German government officials to give positive comments about Beijing's management of the coronavirus outbreak, Germany's Die Welt newspaper reported Sunday.
The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December and Beijing has been criticized by some - most notably US President Donald Trump - over its initial handling of the crisis.
Senior officials and staff at German government ministries were invited “to speak in positive terms about China's management of the coronavirus,” Die Welt said, citing a confidential foreign ministry document.
The foreign ministry recommended that all German governmental departments reject such approaches, the newspaper added. The ministry has declined to confirm or deny the report.
However a German intelligence source told Die Welt that “Chinese officials are pursuing an intensified information and propaganda policy with regard to the coronavirus”.
Beijing has sought to counter the narrative that the outbreak began in China and highlighted its assistance to Western countries “in order to present the People's Republic as a trustworthy partner,” Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution said.
The pandemic has shaken the world, killing more than 107,000 people and infecting over 1,745,000, wreaking vast economic damage and prompting a rash of finger-pointing.
Trump and his administration had made a point of referring to COVID-19 as the “Chinese virus” or the “Wuhan virus”, infuriating Beijing.
The US president has also cast doubt on the accuracy of official Chinese virus figures and accused the World Health Organization of pro-China bias.

ReplyDeleteFew Months ago i went for a check up in the hospital, the doctor took my blood for a test and told me to come after 3 days for the results, after 3 days passed i went back to the hospital for the results,and it was then the doctor told me that i was diagnosed with HIV virus.
