Six former security chiefs warned Israelis against keeping Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in office, describing him as a danger, stating that he is putting the country at risk and using sensitive classified information for personal gain, in a video published online Thursday.
The Hebrew video is the latest in a series of protests against Netanyahu by security officials past and present, as the country’s third consecutive election campaign draws to a close before the March 2 election.
The video features former Mossad spy agency heads Tamir Pardo, Efraim Halevy and Shabtai Shavit, as well as former Shin Bet security service chiefs Yuval Diskin, Carmi Gillon and Ami Ayalon, all speaking out against Netanyahu.
All six served under Netanyahu, most of them during his first term as prime minister from 1996 to 1999.
“Strategic assets, which are the basis that Israel exists on, are turned by Netanyahu into a tool to serve his ego and the price could be damaging to the continued existence of the state of Israel,” Gilon, who headed the Shin Bet from 1995 to 1996 says in the video.

“A prime minister who is not a personal example for all Israel citizens is a clear and concrete danger to the safety of the State of Israel,” says Pardo, who headed the Mossad from 2011 to 2016.
Diskin, who headed the Shin Bet from 2005 to 2010, says that indictments against Netanyahu show that he’s “lost the moral and ethical right to lead Israel against the challenges it faces.”
Only Ayalon and Halevy gave examples of the prime minister’s actions endangering Israel, though neither stemmed from their time as security chiefs: Ayalon, who headed the Shin Bet from 1996 to 2000, cited the submarine scandal, a massive bribery case that has snagged a number of Netanyahu’s associates, but not the prime minister. Halevy, who headed the Mossad from 1998 to 2002, questioned Netanyahu’s decision to hold a ceremony open to the press at the Dimona nuclear facility in 2018.

Netanyahu’s relationship with his former security chiefs has been famously prickly, with many of them, like Diskin, becoming vocal critics shortly after leaving office.
His main rival, Benny Gantz, is a former head of the Israel Defense Forces, and two of three of Gantz’s top deputies in Blue and White are also former military chiefs.

A number of petitions signed by hundreds of army officers, pilots and others, have been sent to President Reuven Rivlin in recent days calling on him not to task Netanyahu with forming a government after the March 2 vote, given the criminal indictments against him.
The video comes as both Likud and Blue and White have stepped up campaigns against each other, with Netanyahu describing Gantz as weak and susceptible to blackmail, and Gantz calling Netanyahu a corrupt liar.
Netanyahu is set to face trial starting March 17 on three counts of fraud and breach of trust and one count of bribery.
In was not immediately clear who funded or produced the video, which was published on YouTube by progressive activist Or-ly Barlev.

In our news wrap Wednesday, hopes for Israel to end months of political deadlock have dimmed, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to be short of a parliamentary majority. The result could mean a fourth election within a year. Also, both Turkish and Syrian soldiers were killed amid fighting in northwestern Syria. Turkey is trying to stop a Syrian offensive driving refugees to its border.

It’s after 2 a.m. in Club 38, a nightspot in an old railway shed in Beirut. The DJ is in the cab of a rusty train. Lights sweep across a dense crowd below. My host is Andy Khawaja, a Lebanese-American businessman. We’re sitting at the club’s VIP table and he’s scrolling through photographs on his phone. Here he is with Hillary Clinton at a fundraiser. Here, he’s shaking hands with President Trump in the Oval Office.
The men he’s with in the club have shaved heads, bushy beards, tattoos. I wonder if they’re mafia, militia, or mukhabarat (secret police). When I get up and walk to the restroom, a burly minder with a Glock in his waistband follows a step behind. He turns on the tap and hands me a towel. Back at the table, a line of men in fezzes stamp out the dabka, an Arab folk dance, in tribute to Khawaja. He’s delighted. One of the fez dancers is banging a huge drum. The music is deafening and we have to scream to be heard.
‘They fucked me, Paul, they fucked me. First, they destroyed my business. Now they’re coming after me.’ Andy Khawaja believes he’s being persecuted because of what he knows. And what he knows, he tells me, is that Saudi Arabia and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi bought the 2016 election for Donald Trump.
Over the past year, we’ve met at his palatial home high in the Hollywood Hills, at the Kempinski hotel in Qatar and at the cigar bar of the Mayfair Arts Club in London. One minute, he’s showing me a picture of himself with the Pope (he gives huge sums to charity); the next he’s on a video call with what seems to be an official in Tehran, trying to free an American hostage. There’s always a touch of the fantastical, even the impossible, about Khawaja’s life and his stories. I’ve come to Beirut to get him to go on the record about something he’s been talking about privately to me for many months: what happened in the 2016 elections.
Khawaja claims the Saudis and the Emiratis illegally paid tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars to the Trump campaign in 2016. He says that to keep it secret, they disguised the money as small donations from Americans, using stolen identities and ‘virtual credit cards’ or gift cards — donations of less than $200 do not have to be reported to the Federal Election Commission and made public. He claims the Saudis and the Emiratis were able to make thousands of such small donations at a time using the latest payment processing technology. Khawaja knows this, he says, because he sold the know-how to their middleman, George Nader, who will be the central character in this story.
All those supposedly involved in this have issued denials or preferred not to comment. They include Nader’s lawyers; the Saudi and Emirati embassies in Washington, DC; the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee; and Stripe, the company that took credit card payments for them both during the election. Khawaja says he’s tried and failed to get the FBI to investigate. The Bureau isn’t saying what it makes of his story. Khawaja also says he has spoken to a National Security Council member, a congressman, a senator and a former general. Nothing has come of that, either. Meanwhile, his life has been shattered, his company wrecked. But he believes he will be vindicated in the end.
***
Time to leave for the next place. No tab is presented: ‘I never pay, Paul.’ Khawaja strides through the club shaking hands. He is short and barrel-chested in a black shirt and skinny jeans. A line of SUVs waits outside. He climbs into the front seat of a black Range Rover and I squeeze into the back. The driver hands Khawaja an M4A4 assault rifle from the well of the front seat. He jokingly points it towards the back and we all duck and dodge as the barrel swings around — everyone, that is, except Claudette, a 6ft Lebanese prostitute with long black hair, ordered by someone in the group. She giggles. She seems used to this kind of thing.
Then it’s out of the Range Rover, into another club and on to another VIP table, bouncers and bodyguards clearing the way, staff hurrying to bring bottles of booze, Khawaja chewing on a fat cigar, his eyes twinkling, no one asking for money. The nightclubbing ends at 6 a.m. and we agree to meet for lunch at 2 in the afternoon.
The restaurant is by the Beirut marina. Yachts bob up and down outside. Khawaja orders for us from a spread of seafood on ice: red mullet and sea bass (eaten raw), shrimp and octopus. One of last night’s group slumps in a chair, gray-faced and glassy-eyed. He says Khawaja got everyone up at 8 to go fishing. Khawaja always told me he needed only two hours’ sleep a night, but I never really believed it. Yet now he doesn’t seem tired at all. Perhaps this is how he built up a business he says is, or used to be, worth $18 billion.
The Khawaja legend is that he grew up poor in Lebanon during the civil war, picking up bullet casings from the street to sell for scrap. He escaped at the age of 14, made his way alone to the United States and found his first job in a Wendy’s in New Jersey. Although his real first name is Ahmad, he’s been ‘Andy’ ever since he arrived. He worked as a cashier in a supermarket and eventually moved on to ‘selling jackets on Rodeo Drive’ in Los Angeles. Realizing that it was hard for shops to take payments from foreign credit cards, he then started a company, Allied Wallet, to make it easy. Payment processing is Khawaja’s business. He knows credit cards and he knows how to move money. He may also know how to move money secretly.
In early 2016, Khawaja wanted to create an online shopping mall for the Middle East, an Arab Amazon. He needed investors. Enter George Nader. Like Khawaja, Nader is Lebanese-American. His name might be familiar because he was a witness in the Mueller inquiry. In January 2017, Nader set up a meeting in the Seychelles that he apparently hoped would establish a back channel between the Trump administration and the Kremlin. He’s now awaiting sentence in the US, a convicted pedophile.
In 2016, Nader was working for Mohammed bin Zayed (‘MbZ’) the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Khawaja says Nader told him he’d found an investor for the online mall, another member of the Emirati royal family. Khawaja told this sheikh he would need half a billion dollars to build the Arab Amazon. Just send us the details, the sheikh said, and we’ll invest the whole $500 million.
Khawaja couldn’t believe his luck: ‘For me it was like, “Fuckin’ hallelujah! Jackpot!”’ It turned out that the sheikh was involved in running Abu Dhabi’s intelligence services. But the half billion never arrived, none of it, and the mall project died. Instead, Nader said he wanted to buy Khawaja’s ‘payment engine’, the technology for taking credit card payments over the internet. Khawaja agreed.
Khawaja says that in September 2016, Nader told him why he needed the payment engine. Abu Dhabi wanted help making ‘online micropayments’ in bulk to the Trump campaign and the RNC. He describes Nader asking for help to make it work: ‘How can we generate electronic payouts to the online donation websites? I would like you to show us how we would be able to do that.’
Khawaja wasn’t taking notes or recording these conversations. These are his recollections of what Nader said, and we have only his word. He remembers Nader explaining why they wanted to fund the Trump campaign. According to Khawaja, Nader said: ‘I’ve been meeting with the Trump campaign people…we have a deal with Trump: my boss, His Highness, made a deal that if we help Trump get elected, he’s going to be harsh on Iran, he’s going to take out the nuclear deal that the Obama administration made. That will cripple the Iranian economy and will sanction Iran from selling oil again. It will make it very difficult for them to compete in the oil market. That’s worth a hundred billion dollars to us. That’s the reason we cannot allow Hillary to win at any cost. She must lose.’
Khawaja says he asked: ‘But you really think he’s going to win? I mean, this is crazy.’ And he says that Nader replied: ‘His Highness is not stupid, he will never bet on a losing horse.’ The money would come from the Saudis. The Emiratis would run the operation, using data bought from the Chinese. Khawaja says that Nader told him: ‘We have all the data already, we have 10 million US consumers’ data. And we have endless money.’ The Russians were ‘on board’ too: ‘He said, “Yes, I have met with Putin already and we have a green light from him. Because Putin is on the same page with us. He wants Hillary to lose.”’
Nader’s lawyers have not responded to my questions. If Nader really did say all this, the obvious reaction is that he was fantasizing in order to exploit Khawaja. The Trump campaign, for one, told me that Nader had asked them for a meeting and they had refused; there is nothing to suggest that any meeting would have been to discuss small dollar donations. Khawaja says that he assumed Nader was lying about everything — until, that is, Nader sent him three pictures from his phone.
***
The first picture shows Nader meeting with Vladimir Putin in what feels like some corner of the Kremlin. In the second, Nader is warmly embraced by the Saudi leader, Mohammed bin Salman (‘MbS’) in what appears to be a private office or sitting room. In the third, Nader is with his patron, MbZ, apparently on MbZ’s private plane.
George Nader and Vladimir Putin
george nader mbs

These pictures don’t prove there was a plot to secretly finance the Trump campaign. But they do show that Nader had the access he allegedly claimed to have. In the fish restaurant in Beirut, Khawaja clasps my hand and leans forward, imitating Nader’s reedy, slightly breathless voice. ‘“And if this works,” he said to me like this’— now Khawaja is pulling me towards him — ‘“if this works, Wallahi [‘I swear to God’], Wallahi Andy, Wallahi Andy, Wallahi Andy, Wallahi Andy…”’ Now Khawaja and I are uncomfortably close. He acts out the crucial moment with Nader: ‘“Wallahi, I swear to God, Andy, His Highness will control every America election. His Highness will control America. We will control America.”’
Khawaja describes pulling away from Nader, his ‘head spinning’, and telling him he’d have nothing to do with his scheme. At this point, he says, Nader had paid him almost $5 million of the $10 million agreed for the blueprints of his payment engine. At this point, too, it seemed to Khawaja that this was Nader’s money: Nader, he thought, was hoping to please his boss, MbZ.
The plot to buy the election was still taking shape, Khawaja says, when he walked away: Nader would have to develop the payment engine without his help. He heard nothing more until January 2017, after Trump had won and was preparing to take office. Khawaja says he gave Nader ‘a couple of spare tickets’ to events at the Inauguration. He describes Nader sitting at his table, smiling and saying, ‘You see, I told you, I told you Trump was going to win.’
Khawaja remembers Nader telling him that Trump’s first foreign trip would be to Riyadh, to ‘celebrate’ with MbS and MbZ: ‘They’re the ones that got him elected.’ There was more — Saudi Arabia and the UAE would announce a blockade of their rival, Qatar, and Trump would support it.
Trump did, in fact, make his first foreign trip to Riyadh, in May 2017. And he did support the blockade of Qatar, which began in June 2017. Khawaja says Nader told him during their talk at the Inauguration that they had put ‘a few hundred million’ into the effort to elect Trump. At the fish restaurant, I ask Khawaja if he thinks the payments are continuing today. ‘One hundred percent.’
***
The Department of Justice tells a different story about why Nader gave Khawaja $5 million. In December 2019, the DoJ jointly charged Nader and Khawaja with making $3.5 million in illegal campaign contributions — not to Trump, but to Hillary Clinton.
Khawaja and Nader are accused of old-fashioned ‘straw donor’ fraud. A foreign government wants to get money to a candidate, so it gives the money to an American who makes the donation in his or her own name. The prosecutors say Nader got $3.5 million from the Emiratis to give to Khawaja for political committees supporting Hillary. Nader has pled not guilty to the charges.
The US government now considers Khawaja a fugitive.
The DoJ’s indictment claims that Nader and Khawaja used an absurdly transparent code to disguise the movement of money. Hillary was ‘big sister’, her fundraisers were ‘birthday parties’ and the cash was ‘baklava’. This, the indictment says, explains Nader and Khawaja’s WhatsApp exchanges:
Nader: ‘I am following up with my people on making sure the goodies arrive later this week in time for the Party!’
Khawaja: ‘The birthday party has been set up…for my sister and it’s going to be huge for her…’
Nader: ‘Fresh hand made baklava on the way designed especially for that private event at your house later!’
Khawaja: ‘Small baklava arrived. 2.7 pieces.’
The indictment says this refers to the delivery to Khawaja’s company of €2.5 million by wire transfer. As plans go, this one was not very cunning. Khawaja agrees: ‘The FBI love it — it looks like some code and that’s their wet dream.’ But he insists that the ‘baklava was actually really baklava’. He claims they were talking about two different things in the WhatsApp messages: Nader was bringing baklava from the Middle East as a gift for Hillary, but he was also making a joke about how much money he still owed Khawaja for the payment gateway.
‘I asked him, “Why are you writing me [about] fuckin’ 2.2 million boxes of baklava? Just say, I’m sending you $2.2 million, what I owe you.”’ The FBI did not get the joke. ‘In 2016, I made $43 million. You think I need a fucking $3 million from this guy? Why would George need to give me even one dollar to give to Hillary Clinton? He’s a US citizen. He can do it himself. I made a deal with George and he bought a product from me. I never lobbied for anyone, I never took any money from a foreign leader. Never.’
<a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/BIxYB-8Asfb/” rel=”nofollow”>https://www.instagram.com/p/BIxYB-8Asfb/</a>
Records published by the Federal Election Commission show Khawaja making large political donations, mostly to Democrats but also giving to Republicans. Last year, I saw evidence of his clout at a dinner in the Trump Hotel in Washington, DC, when he bumped into some senior Republicans. The evening began with a line of hotel employees bowing and handwringing — Khawaja is a big tipper and very popular — as they ushered him up the stairs to BLT Prime, the hotel’s steak restaurant. We were given the best table in the house, the circular one in the corner where President Trump likes to eat, with a view of the hotel’s monstrous chandeliers and cavernous, nine-story lobby. Khawaja was telling me about the warm welcome he got whenever he went to Capitol Hill.
‘I’ve given money to half the people there,’ he said. Just then, the House Republican Leader, Kevin McCarthy, arrived and was shown to the second-best table in the restaurant. He was leading a large group that included members of Congress and a couple of governors. The choreography was interesting. Khawaja and McCarthy stood but did not move, instead semaphoring greetings at each other from their respective tables. But many of McCarthy’s group headed over to Khawaja’s table to pay their respects. They looked like the line of hotel employees from earlier.
Khawaja’s obsession that evening was a legal action against Allied Wallet by the US government. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had accused Khawaja’s company of helping internet fraudsters to cheat consumers. Khawaja was beside himself with fury. Other, far bigger, payment processors were doing exactly the same thing, he said. Allied Wallet later paid the FTC the staggering sum of $110 million to settle the complaint.
In Beirut, Khawaja tells me that he sees this action, and the later criminal charges, as part of a pattern, and that Allied Wallet was singled out because he has made some powerful enemies. He claims that Abu Dhabi has spent ‘$25 to $30 million’ on a lobbying effort against him that reaches into the Department of Justice. The White House is working with the Emiratis, he says, afraid of what he knows.
‘One day I might have to testify against them, so why not burn me first?’ He goes on to tell me something he’s often said before: ’The law has been manipulated. I see my case like a judgment time — when they brought Jesus Christ to the Romans. They just threw an accusation at him to crucify him. That’s how I see myself, Jesus Christ standing in a Roman court, being accused of things I never did.’
Khawaja has shown me no proof of secret payments to the Trump campaign. But he insists that he remembers what Nader told him and that he gave Nader the tools to do the job. Could Khawaja be telling an elaborate story to distract from the charges he faces? He says he went to the FBI two years ago, long before he was indicted. A former public figure tells me that’s true: he helped Khawaja speak to the FBI. But, he says, Khawaja never produced the evidence he promised. The FBI won’t comment.
***
While there is no hard evidence that Khawaja’s story is true, his account is supported by two witnesses. On our night out in Beirut, we meet another businessman who dealt with Nader in the UAE. This man, who arrives in a silver Rolls Royce, recalls that he, too, was asked by Nader to sell him a credit card payments gateway in 2016, and that Nader mentioned a connection to the UAE. He remembers Nader seeming almost desperate to acquire the gateway.
And it seems that Nader told at least one other person about the small-dollar donations. Around the time of the 2016 election, a friend of Nader’s for 30 years says he saw him for lunch at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Los Angeles. This man’s recollections of what Nader said are remarkably similar to Khawaja’s. He also says that Nader told him he was getting $12 million a month from the royal court in Abu Dhabi to run the election operation: ‘He finally got his big payday.’
In the summer of 2018, this man introduced me to Nader, taking me to see him in Abu Dhabi. Nader wanted to talk about doing a big interview for an American television network to rehabilitate his image. By then, he was notorious both as a witness for the Mueller inquiry and for a long history of pedophile offenses. He blinked owlishly and said — in the distinctive, high pitched voice that Khawaja later imitated — how unfair it all was. He said nothing about micropayments to the Trump campaign.
Nader did tell me that he had been to the White House ‘a dozen times’ to help set up Trump’s visit to Riyadh. If this is true, was Nader acting as an unregistered agent of Saudi Arabia and the UAE? After I saw him in Abu Dhabi, I met a senior Emirati diplomat in Washington, DC. He remembered Nader ‘frantically banging on the embassy’s door’ after Mueller’s team had arrested him at the airport. But, he said, the UAE had been careful to stay ‘35,000 feet above the US election’.
***
Whether you believe Khawaja or the DoJ, both versions of events have the UAE using its wealth to buy influence. Khawaja’s story is, however, about vastly greater sums, perhaps enough to swing an election, though, as with all allegations of election-buying, it’s impossible to correlate dollars directly to votes. One former Federal Election Commission official told me that he and his colleagues had been worrying for a long time that the rules on small-dollar donations could be exploited. Others involved in the specialized and highly technical business of campaign finance have told me they doubt such a scheme could succeed.
The Republican National Committee says it has ‘seen no evidence’ to support Khawaja’s claims. Its press office emailed me a statement: ‘We take diligent steps to ensure donations are made in accordance with the law.’ The RNC and the Trump campaign accept donations through the credit card processing company Stripe. Stripe say they use ‘machine learning to recognize fraud’.
I asked Gerrit Lansing, who ran the RNC’s digital operations in 2016, about whether online micropayments could be made in bulk, by a foreign government or anyone else. Lansing replied by text: ‘We get this conspiracy theory a lot and it’s easily disproven.’ But Khawaja believes that he knows more than anyone about online payments — and that it is not difficult to make fraudulent campaign donations look real.
***
There remains the question of Trump’s phenomenal fundraising among small donors. Barack Obama reinvented online fundraising and in 2012 small donations provided 28 percent of his campaign budget. In 2016, only 22 percent of Hillary Clinton’s campaign money came from small donors. In the same year, 69 percent of all the money the Trump campaign raised came from individuals giving less than $200 each. And — a slightly different measure — in one quarter last year, 99 percent of Trump’s contributors were small donors.
The generally accepted view is that the president has built a new political movement from the grassroots up. Andy Khawaja has a different explanation. Back in Lebanon, he lives like an exile from the United States. Ironically, the US government has canceled his credit cards. He says he is surviving on ‘loans from friends’. As we sit in the Beirut apartment he bought for his parents in a luxurious blue-green glass tower overlooking the marina, he reminisces about a TV show he once produced, Model Turned Superstar. (‘From the creative mind of billionaire payments mogul Andy Khawaja comes a new reality show that brings nearly 100 models from around the globe together.’) He was a judge on the show, of course, and talked about the models in a promotional video: ‘I wanna spoil them just the way I spoil myself. Life is journey into the light, not into the dark. You know 25 years ago I wasn’t rich either. I was struggling to eat [from] my sardine can at night and look where I am today: livin’ it the largee.’
Now, Khawaja has a new title for the reality show of his life: The Whistleblower.
‘How do you like that title? I’m the whistleblower, Paul, the whistleblower. The whistleblower who revealed foreign government interference in our election has been charged to cover up for the Trump administration. Falsely accused and charged…it’s Operation Suffocation, Operation Choke Point. End-to-end. Take him out. Kill him. They tried to frame me so bad. At the end of the day, I sleep like a baby at night. Coronavirus in New York: The Latest

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

Weather: Sunny but gusty, with a high in the mid-50s.
Alternate-side parking: In effect until Tuesday (Purim).
[Just in: Six people in New York have now tested positive for the new coronavirus, officials said on Wednesday.]
Two schools, in the Bronx and in Westchester County, were closed yesterday. A synagogue in nearby New Rochelle was shuttered. And nearly every one of the city’s 427 subway stations were disinfected with bleach.
These precautions and others came on the heels of the state’s second confirmed case of the coronavirus: a man in his 50s from Westchester. The first case was a Manhattan woman, 39, who had recently flown home from Iran.
As officials in New York are scrambling to curb the outbreak, they are also trying to ease the public’s fears. “You cannot contain the spread,” Governor Cuomo said yesterday. “You can slow it.”
Jesse McKinley, The Times’s Albany bureau chief, is covering the outbreak, and he spoke to me about the state’s response.
Jesse, how are state and local officials responding to the coronavirus?
The State Department of Health, in Albany, is testing possible cases and tracking people who may have come into contact with anyone who tested positive. City health officials are doing similar work.
Federal health officials are examining whether the virus is mutating and seeing if the mortality rate is getting worse.
[Worried about coronavirus on the subway? Here’s what we know.]
A lot happened in the days after the state’s first case was confirmed. What could happen by Friday?
New York officials have two playbooks. One was written by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2017. The other was written by state officials in 2015. Both were written after the H1N1 swine flu of 2009.
Those playbooks called for pretty extreme stuff: closing schools, calling off concerts and sporting events. I don’t know if we’ll ever get to that. But this could accelerate quickly.
What is it exactly about the coronavirus that worries New York officials?
Last week, I spoke with Howard A. Zucker, the state’s health commissioner. He said there were probably more people who have the coronavirus than officials have confirmed. That may mean that the mortality rate is probably lower than we realize.
But Dr. Zucker also said he worried that the coronavirus would “mutate to something which has more virulence to it.”
The state and city are working closely together. Did you expect that, given the tensions between Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio?
It happened in 2014 with the Ebola virus. They set aside their qualms and came together. This is Governance 101: You have to set aside the politics for a second.
But I also think there will be some friction between state and city officials, particularly if you have hundreds of cases and you start taking drastic steps, like closing schools. But right now, everyone’s on the same page because they don’t want the public to freak out.
Are there any big events that might force health officials to take decisive action?
In New York City, there are big public events all of the time. Tonight, the New York Knicks are playing the Utah Jazz at Madison Square Garden; the Brooklyn Nets are playing the Memphis Grizzlies at the Barclays Center. And baseball season is four weeks away.
It will be interesting to see if both city and state officials try to discourage people from attending things like that, or a Taylor Swift concert.
I’m sure that’s the only thing that could keep you away from a Taylor Swift concert.
Let’s be very clear: I am absolutely going to a Taylor Swift concert.

And finally: Where’s the snow?

The Times’s Anne Barnard writes:
It rained again in New York City yesterday. And before those March showers, there had been only a trace of snow in Central Park last month — only the sixth time the park had no measurable snow in February since records began in 1868.
There was also no snow at the city’s airports for most of February, according to the National Weather Service — a record. But a few flakes fell on Saturday, the extra day of a leap year.
The paltry snowfall has left children crestfallen, teenagers pining for snow days and commuters relieved. Coming on the heels of the world’s hottest year on record, the snow deficit was also a sign of climate change — though not in the way some people might assume.
Climate change, said Mark Wysocki, the New York State climatologist, leads to volatile weather patterns. In Central Park, for instance, the past decade saw both the second-snowiest winter — 61.9 inches from December 2010 to February 2011 — and the second-least snowy, this season’s 4.8 inches.
This winter was one of the top-10 warmest for many places across the country, including New York. For record keeping, climatologists define winter as December, January and February.
Chike Eleazu, jogging in Central Park over the weekend, said he associated snow with “a lot of unpleasantness,” but worried about global warming when it did not come.
“Obviously, something is not right,” he said.
It’s Wednesday — look up.

Metropolitan Diary: Packed In

Dear Diary:
The M.T.A. is governed by one law of physics: You’re never as crammed in as you think you are.
One morning, the downtown No. 3 train I was on arrived at 72nd Street, and four people made their way out of my packed car. Ten more got on.
Without a handrail or pole to grab onto, I stayed upright by being pressed up against my fellow commuters.
The train began moving, and we whirred past 66th, 59th and 50th Streets. Pulling into the 42nd Street Station, the intercom crackled to life.
“Gooooood morning, ladies and gentleman,” the train operator said. “Welcome to Times Square, or as we like to call it, the heartbeat of New York City. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, perhaps with a transfer to the 1, 2, 7, A, C, E, N, Q, R or W.”
The chest of every person near me seemed to swell with laughter. We must not have been as crammed in as we thought.

5 Drug Makers to Gain From Coronavirus Outbreak

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from Yahoo Finance.

The coronavirus epidemic has become a grave concern, with confirmed cases and fatalities rising across the globe. Drug developers are racing against time to develop a treatment and contain the outbreak that has now spread to nearly 81 countries.
While some drug manufacturers are repurposing old antivirals, some are relying on modern approaches like DNA-based therapies that will give a more futuristic approach to medical science.
Coronavirus Drug is the Need of the Hour
With no drug, vaccine or cure yet, healthcare officials are relying on preventive measures such as isolation of infected patients and use of masks and gloves. Newer cases across the globe are putting pressure on pharmaceutical companies to develop vaccines or therapy to counter the spread of the disease. (Read more: 4 Healthcare Stocks to Gain as Coronavirus Threat Looms Large)
In fact, on Monday, President Donald Trump, along with the U.S. administration wing specially assigned to deal with the coronavirus outbreak, met executives from 10 pharmaceutical companies. The meeting actually intended to put pressure on the pharmaceutical industry to bring drug prices down turned into a discussion related to the development of a coronavirus vaccine.
With the death toll rising in the United States, Trump emphasized on speeding up work on developing a coronavirus vaccine. However, many including Tony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, opined that deployment of an effective vaccine may take “a year to a year and a half.”
Given the current pace at which the disease is spreading, many drug makers have already entered into early testing, but at the same time companies cannot overlook the constraints involved in manufacturing such vaccines.
CureVac, a top drug maker, uses messenger RNA to produce protective antibodies inside patients’ bodies, which in turn help in prevention of infection. The company expects to start coronavirus vaccine in healthy volunteers by June.
5 Drug Manufacturers to Watch
Several drug makers are constantly working on development of therapies and vaccines. But only a few of them have made real progress and seem to be prudent investment options in these tumultuous times.
Our first choice is Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. REGN, a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) company, which is advancing into preclinical trials for coronavirus vaccine. The company crafts human antibodies out of genetically engineered mice and hopes to treat coronavirus in the same way. Currently, Regeneron is immunizing its antibody-generating mice with a harmless analog of the novel coronavirus. If results are positive, Regeneron’s candidate will be ready for human testing by late summer.
The company’s expected earnings growth rate for the current quarter is 35.5% against the Zacks Medical – Biomedical and Genetics industry’s projected earnings decline of 70.5%. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank stocks here.
Moderna, Inc. MRNA is a clinical stage biotechnology company that has developed mRNA-1273, a vaccine candidate. It is working with the National Institutes of Health on a healthy-volunteer study expected to begin next month. Additionally, the company has joined forces with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) for a vaccine approach.
This Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) company’s expected earnings growth rate for the next quarter is 9.8% against the Zacks Medical – Biomedical and Genetics industry’s projected earnings decline of 70.5%.
DNA-based immune therapy and vaccine developer, Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. INO has received grants from CEPI to develop its DNA vaccine, which may generate protective antibodies and protect patients from infection.
This Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company’s expected earnings growth rate for the next quarter is 23.3% against the Zacks Medical – Biomedical and Genetics industry’s projected earnings decline of 70.5%.
Another drug maker in the limelight is Novavax, Inc. NVAX. Since the last week of February 2020, the company has begun testing its new coronavirus vaccine candidates in animal models. The findings from the preclinical testing will help Novavax determine an optimal candidate for human studies.
This Zacks Rank #3 company’s expected earnings growth rate for the next quarter is 74.6% against the Zacks Medical – Biomedical and Genetics industry’s projected earnings decline of 70.5%.
Sanofi SNY is a large-cap pharmaceutical company. It has now collaborated with the US Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to develop vaccine candidates against COVID-19. This Zacks Rank #3 company’s expected earnings growth rate for the current year is 4.8%.

Before the start of business, Just Security provides a curated summary of up-to-the-minute developments at home and abroad. Here’s today’s news.
CORONAVIRUS
Several countries, including the United States, reported new coronavirus cases as the World Health Organization (WHO) warned the world was in “uncharted territory.” More than 90,000 cases have been confirmed worldwide. Al Jazeera reports.
The world’s supplies of protective gear – masks, gloves and goggles – need to be increased by an estimated 40 percent, urged WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Tuesday. “We continue to call on manufacturers to urgently increase production to meet this demand and guarantee supplies.” He said that the virus has killed 3.4 percent of those diagnosed with the illness globally — higher than what has previously been estimated. While it appears to be more deadly than the flu, Covid-19 spreads less efficiently, according to the WHO. Stephanie Nebehay and Kate Kelland report for Reuters.
The U.S. Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a half percentage point on Tuesday in an emergency move designed to shield the world’s largest economy from the impact of the coronavirus. “The Fed reduced the federal-funds rate to a range between 1% and 1.25% in the first rate change in between scheduled Fed policy meetings since the 2008 financial crisis.” Nick Timiraos reports for the Wall Street Journal.
Following a meeting of G7 countries, Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso stated that the G7 would “adopt all appropriate policy steps to protect the economy from downside risks posed by the coronavirus” but offered no quick fix and said the desirable policy response would vary from country to country. Reuters reports.
The coronavirus deaths tied to the nursing center in Washington state came earlier than anyone knew. “The news that two people from the center died of coronavirus days before officials identified the emerging crisis suggested that the virus had been circulating inside the facility even longer than had been understood. That means it may have been a threat to visitors, workers and residents for days, widening the circle of people who may be at risk.” Mike Baker and Karen Weise report for the New York Times.
Facing questions about why testing isn’t more widely available in the U.S., Vice President Mike sought to reassure the public Tuesday, saying that any American can now be tested for the virus if a doctor deems it necessary. His comments were made during an off-camera press briefing, where no video or audio recording were allowed.
“Pence’s comments perplexed some public health officials, as physicians already have discretion to order testing. The announcement also raised questions about whether the government can rapidly accelerate the production of testing kits, as well as how much patients will ultimately have to pay for getting tested.” Seung Min Kim, Maria Sacchetti and Brady Dennis report for the Washington Post.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper reportedly urged American military commanders overseas not to make any decisions related to the coronavirus that might surprise the White House or run afoul of President Donald Trump’s messaging on the growing health challenge. The message was delivered to combatant commanders during a video conference last week. The New York Times reports.
Iran has temporarily released more than 54,000 prisoners in an effort to combat the spread of the new coronavirus disease in crowded jails. Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili told reporters that the inmates were granted furlough after testing negative for Covid-19 and posting bail. “Security prisoners” sentenced to more than five years will not be let out, the BBC reports.
An adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has died after contracting the coronavirus. Mohammad Mirmohammadi, 71, was a member of the Expediency Council that advises Khamenei. CNN reports.
Eight percent of all members of Iran’s parliament (23 out of 290 members) have tested positive for coronavirusCNN reports.
Japan’s Olympic minister says the Tokyo 2020 Games could be postponed from the summer until later in the year amid fears over the coronavirus outbreak. In a response to a question in Japan’s parliament, Seiko Hashimoto said Tokyo’s contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) “calls for the Games to be held within 2020” adding that the contract “could be interpreted as allowing a postponement” BBC reports.
A map and analysis of all confirmed cases of the virus in the U.S. is available at the New York Times.
U.S. and worldwide maps tracking the spread of the virus are available at the Washington Post.
AFGHANISTAN
Days after signing a “peace deal” with the Taliban, the United States conducted an airstrike against Taliban forces in response to their repeated attacks against Afghan troops, according to the U.S. military. “Col. Sonny Leggett, a U.S. military spokesman, said in a tweet that the ‘defensive’ strike was the first U.S. attack against the militants in 11 days. He said the attack was to counter a Taliban assault on Afghan government forces in Nahr-e Saraj in the southern Helmand province.” AP reports.
Trump spoke to the Taliban’s chief negotiator on the phone on Tuesday. The president confirmed he spoke with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar after the Taliban announced the conversation happened. Trump told reporters on Tuesday, “I spoke to the leader of the Taliban today, we had a good conversation, we have agreed there is no violence, don’t want violence. We will see what happens. They’re dealing with Afghanistan but we will see what happens.”
Trump told reporters at a White House news conference Saturday that he would be “meeting personally with Taliban leaders in the not too distant future” following the signing of the agreement. Jennifer Hansler reports for CNN.
IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), tasked with policing Iran’s nuclear deal, reported that Iran has dramatically increased its uranium stockpile. The IAEA “reported a near-tripling of Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium just since November, with total holdings more than three times the 300-kilogram limit set by the nuclear accord. Iran also substantially increased the number of machines it is using to enrich uranium, the agency said, allowing it to make more of the nuclear fuel faster.” Joby Warrick reports for the Washington Post.
The IAEA is also rebuking Iran for its lack of cooperation and for denying U.N. inspectors access to two sites. Reuters reports.
TURKEY-SYRIA
Turkish forces downed a third fighter jet flown by Syrian government forces since Sunday over southern Idlib on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Syrian government forces retook the key city of Saraqeb, which lies at the junction of the M4 and M5 commercial highways that connect the country’s major cities overnight following Russian air strikes in the area. Al Jazeera reports.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock said that displaced civilians were “struggling to survive in horrific conditions” in war-torn northwest Syria. Lowcok pledged that the U.N. remains “determined to stand by” civilians across Syria’s war-torn northwest, as “a grave humanitarian crisis” continues. U.N. News reports.
A child drowned on Monday when a dinghy carrying 48 migrants capsized while trying to reach the Greek island of Lesbos from the Turkish coast. The drowning was the first since the Turkish government said it would no longer stop migrants from crossing into Europe. Matina Stevis-Gridneff reports for the New York Times.
Amidst the breakdown in an immigration agreement between Turkey and Greece, “Turkey released new footage appearing to show refugees and migrants being repelled by Greek coastguards near the island of Lesbos, with vessels driving perilously close to dinghies and firing shots in the water close to them.” Dramatic videos appeared to show evidence of dramatic confrontations between migrants and Greek border patrol authorities in the Mediterranean sea. Aljazeera reports.
ISRAEL-PALESTINE
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is projected to win Israel’s election, but fall short of winning a majority. Netanyahu’s right-wing and religious coalition projected to win 59 seats in the Monday election, two shy of a majority in the 120-member Parliament. David M. Halbfinger and Patrick Kingsley report for the New York Times.
Israel’s Arab parties, meanwhile, looked poised to win their largest-ever representation in parliament, propelled by what analysts say is anger toward Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his U.S. allies. Reuters reports.
As for the Trump administration’s “vision” for Middle East peace, “the most problematic, near-term effect … may be its diminishment of critical behind-the-scenes cooperation between the U.S., Israeli, and Palestinian security services,” writes Marc Polymeropoulos, who retired in June from the Senior Intelligence Service ranks at the CIA, for Just Security.
U.S.-CHINA RELATIONS
China has promised to retaliate against the U.S. State Department’s announcement that it is “instituting a personnel cap” on five Chinese state media outlets. The new U.S. rules will force 60 Chinese journalists to leave the United States this month. But the State Department says it’s only responding to a decision by China in February to revoke the press credentials of three Wall Street Journal reporters based in Beijing as punishment for an opinion piece. Anna Fifield reports for the Washington Post.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION
Michael Ellis, a White House lawyer who refused to comply with a congressional subpoena during the impeachment investigation, has been named senior director for intelligence on the National Security Council. By elevating Ellis to this new role, Trump has installed yet another loyalist to a key intelligence-related leadership position. Natasha Bertrand and Daniel Lippman report for POLITICO.
The publication of John Bolton’s memoir about his time working for Trump has been pushed back from March until May 12 due to the White House’s ongoing review of the manuscript. The delay revives questions about whether the government is unfairly holding up Bolton’s book for partisan political reasons, CNN reports.
IRAQ
For the first time, an Iraqi court has held the Islamic State accountable for its atrocities against the Yazidi religious minority. Ashwaq Haji Hamid Talo became the first Yazidi victim to testify against an alleged ISIS member, Mohammed Rashid Sahab. He was convicted of raping her and was sentenced to death. Alissa J. Rubin reports for the New York Times.
OTHER DEVELOPMENTS
Countries pursuing trade deals with the U.S. are taking steps to help block Africans from being able to seek asylum in the U.S. “Ecuador is closing its doors as one of the few countries in North and South America to welcome African visitors, depriving them of a starting point for their dangerous journeys north by land.”
“Trump’s allies are blocking a path for Africans fleeing violence in their homelands as those countries face a U.S. president who has used economic leverage to get help curtailing immigration. Ecuador is pursuing a trade deal with Trump, while Mexico is trying to stay in his good graces after his threat to increase tariffs prompted its crackdown on illegal immigration last year.” Peter Orsi, Gonzalo Solano and Elliot Spagat report for the AP.
U.N. agencies, together with the Bangladesh authorities, have appealed for $877 million to support hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, where conditions are still not conducive for their safe return, U.N. refugee agency chief Filippo Grandi said on Tuesday. U.N. News reports.
In a report to U.N. Human Rights Council, the special rapporteur on the sale and sexual exploitation of children reiterated concerns about protection gaps for children who are increasingly using the internet at a younger age, observing that child sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, and the use of children in prostitution “are a reality in all parts of the world.” U.N. News reports.
U.N. Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHRC) Michelle Bachelet informed India that her office has filed an application with the country’s Supreme Court to intervene as a third party in a petition filed by a former civil servant challenging India’s controversial Citizenship Amendment Act. The law makes it easier for religious minorities from three neighboring Muslim-majority countries who came to India before 2015 to get Indian citizenship, but not if they are Muslim. Al Jazeera Reports.
The accounts of Alexei Navalny, Russia’s main opposition leader and anti-corruption activist, were seized by Russian authorities, along with those of his son, wife and daughter, Daria, who is studying in the U.S. at Stanford University. Navalny and his Anti-Corruption Foundation have come under attack by Russian authorities, which last year designated the group a foreign agent and accused it of money laundering. Robyn Dixon reports for the Washington Post.
The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee sent a letter Monday to the acting director of national intelligence, Richard Grenell, urging him to reconsider his agency’s decision not to declassify information related to the October 2018 murder of journalist and Saudi regime critic Jamal Khashoggi

Some Observations and Comments on the Epidemiological Aspects of the Global CoronaVirus Outbreak

I wish I could find a good and convincing opinion of the professional epidemiologist commenting on this data – see the graph above, but I guess it is too early in the process. To me, as a non-specialist, and on the general observation of this graph in the current informational context, it does not look like a naturally occurring phenomenon but rather as a man made one; on this graph, and according to the news reports, these events look extremely fast developing, even for the epidemic. Together with the absence of any indications of infectious contacts: the “unexplained cases”, it allows us to hypothesize that these cases were deliberately and purposefully introduced and spread, which makes them, practically, the events of the biological war or the offensive. The easy targets: most medically vulnerable and susceptible populations of the nursing homes, as in Seattle, is also favoring the pattern of the man made phenomenon.
In a broader geographical context, the cases do not appear to spread from one particular source, Wuhan appearing to be just one of them but not the primary one, but are distributed in a pinpoint fashion, with some locations, such as Qom in Iran, South Korea, and Italy, being the most notable, and with some places, such as Russia, been relatively spared, despite being in the crossroads of the regional epicenters, such as Iran and China. There are only two known cases in Russia so far, one from Italy, and another from Iran via Azerbaijan, but no other and “unexplained” cases.
Even with the consideration of the intensive Worldwide travel, this pattern of distribution does not look like the one that reflects the spontaneous and “naturally occurring” epidemic.
My impressions are that this phenomenon looks more like the testing of the new and novel bio-weapon, and, considering very intense mass media campaign surrounding it, I think that it is very likely that it might be used for the commercial purposes of sell the vaccine on the global scale. The only entity so far that claims that this vaccine is almost ready, due to some coincidental “lucky” circumstances, is the Israeli “Migal Institute“, which, by the nature of its activities, is very likely to be connected or to have very close relationship with the Israeli Intelligence and/or the Bio-weapons research programs, possibly and/or p robably Mossad or the other similar “Institutes”.
The political aspect of this affair, seen as potentially politcally benefiting Mr. Netanyahu in the recent Israeli elections of March 2020, is also a point of interest.
Overall, my preliminary and hypothetical impressions, on the basis of the considerations shared above, is that this phenomenon of the Global CoronaVirus outbreak might indeed be the product of the activities of the the Israeli Intelligence Services, possibly the Mossad or the others.
The other players, such as the Russians, the Chinese, the Iranians should be considered for the investigative purposes also but appear to be less likely to be involved directly, other than as the Israeli fronts and/or covers.
The possible commercial aspect of it: the prospective and very lucrative sales of the future and already announced vaccine might indicate the involvement of the Organised Crime structures, groups, and entities, most visibly the Russian-Jewish-Israeli Mafia in this affair. The possible and the hypothetical at this point aspect of the symbiosis between these crime groups and the Israeli Government structures, including the Intelligence Services, if indeed somewhat more than just hypothetical, present the reasons for the most worrisome concern.
All these thoughts and observations which I expressed above, together with the published earlier tweets and posts are strictly tentative, hypothetical, as I said many times earlier, and even personal. But their importance and their peculiar nature, should, in my very humble and very respectful to the professionals in this area  opinion, make this subject the specific object of attention for our Investigative and the Intelligence agencies: CIA, DIA, FBI, NSA, NSC, ODNI, and the relevant others. These are the very trying and very troubling times, and every reasonable hypothesis, even seemingly somewhat outlandish at the first glance, should be considered seriously, although with some healthy grain of salt, as always.

The 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak is an ongoing public health emergency of international concern involving coronavirus disease 2019.[6] It is caused by SARS-CoV-2, first identified in WuhanHubei, China.[7][8][9][10] As of 3 March 2020, more than 92,000 cases have been confirmed, of which 8,000 (8.8%) were classified as serious.[5] More than 77 countries and territories have been affected, with major outbreaks in Central ChinaSouth KoreaItaly and Iran.[5] More than 3,100 people have died: about 2,900 in mainland China and almost 200 in other countries.[5] More than 48,000 people have recovered.[4]
The virus primarily spreads between people in a similar way to influenza, via respiratory droplets produced during coughing or sneezing.[7][11][12] The time between exposure and symptom onset is typically five days, but may range from two to fourteen days.[12][13] Symptoms may include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.[12][13] Complications may include pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. There is currently no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment, though research is ongoing. Efforts are aimed at managing symptoms and supportive therapy. Recommended preventive measures include hand washing, maintaining distance from people who are sick, and monitoring and self-isolation for fourteen days if an individual suspects they are infected.[11][12]
Public health responses in China and around the world have included travel restrictionsquarantines, and curfews. These have included the lockdown of Hubei and various curfew measures in China; the quarantine of the cruise ship Diamond Princess in Japanese waters; as well as lockdowns in Italy.[14][15][16] Some airports and train stations have instituted screening methods such as temperature checks and health declaration forms.[17] Several countries have issued advisories warning against travel to regions with ongoing community transmission, such as Central China, Italy and Iran.[18][19][20][21][22]
Wider concerns about consequences of the outbreak include political and economic instability.[23][24] They have also included xenophobia and racism against people of Chinese and East Asian descent,[25][26][27][28][29] and the spread of misinformation about the virus, primarily online.[30]
Corona Virus Accused by Israeli Intelligence As a Biological Weapon Made By China

Michael_Novakhov shared this story from News – Nusa Daily.

NUSADAILY.COM-SHANGHAI- Israeli intelligence suspects that the horrendous coronavirus is a runaway Chinese biological weapons virus. The Wuhan Coronavirus which has shocked the world seems to have traced its origins.
The brother of the virus that caused the SARS epidemic also originated not far from ‘his brother’.
Reporting from the Washington Times, Radio Free Asia this week has re-broadcast Wuhan local television reports from 2015.
The report shows the most sophisticated laboratory in China called the Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory. This lab was opened in January 2018 As reported on the City News on January 25.
The laboratory is the only place where China is declared to be allowed to work with the deadliest viruses in the world.
Former Israeli military intelligence, Dany Shoham, said the institute was linked to the Beijing biological weapons manufacturing program.
“Certain laboratories at the institute may have been linked to the development of biological weapons.”
The expert, who studies Chinese biological weapons, also said the project was part of military research and was certainly very secretive.
Earlier in 2017, scientists warned that viruses like SARS could escape the laboratory. Now, it seems that scientists’ fears have come true.
With 5-7 Biolabs, the laboratory is designed to provide maximum security in Wuhan in 2017, to study the world’s deadliest viruses, including Ebola and SARS.
The location of the biological weapons laboratory where the SARS virus was studied is near the Wuahan animal market
Reporting from the Daily Mail, Tim Trevan, Maryland’s biological security consultant, said if he worried that Chinese culture could cause the institute to become insecure.
This is because China always seems to cover up their information, and that can cause harm.
The laboratory is located 32 km from the Huanan Seafood Market, the place where the first animal-to-human host transfer takes place.
Some have wondered if the center for the outbreak of the case came about by chance, but the scientific community is convinced that the virus has mutated and moved to a human host during animal and human contact.
But Rutgers University microbiologist, Dr. Richard Ebright said there is currently no reason to start suspicion if the facility has links to the outbreak of the case.
Bill Gates predictions
Meanwhile, Bill Gates has predicted a virus pandemic that appears in China and could kill 33 million people worldwide in the first six months.
Reporting from The Sun, Bill Gates has warned that the world is at risk from super pathogens that are spreading rapidly on the planet.
Not only that, but he also reminded that we must prepare for this as we prepare to fight.
Speaking at a conference hosted by the Massachusetts Medical Society, Gates said he was optimistic but there was one area in the world that did not “make much progress”. He said: “And that’s a pandemic readiness.
“In the case of biological threats, a sense of urgency is lacking, the world needs to prepare for a pandemic in the same serious manner as preparing for war.”
During the conference, the philanthropic billionaire also launched an in-depth study by the Institute for Disease Modeling which revealed how quickly a new disease can spread.
The time-lapse video explains how a potential outbreak in China could then quickly spread throughout the planet, which eventually killed 33 million people.
Did you know that the number of 33 million people is equivalent to one-fifth of the population of Java?
According to the projected population of Indonesia (2015-2045) based on the results of the 2015 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS), the total population of Indonesia in 2019 will be 266.91 million. Of this number, around 150 million people or more than 56% are in Java.
Prediction Becomes Reality?
Now one year later, after appearing in the city of Wuhan in China, the world is confronted with a real deadly coronavirus. Confirmed cases have skyrocketed to more than 800 in China alone, officials said.
Vietnam, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong have all now confirmed cases – along with the US, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.
But the World Health Organization last night refused to declare a global public health emergency, saying that it was still “too early.” However, officials admit the committee was split between 50-50.
Four major Chinese cities are confined to 20 million people in quarantine, with evidence of human-to-human transmission.
Officials have restricted travel at the epicenter of the Wuhan virus earthquake, which is home to 11 million, as well as neighbors Huanggang, Ezhou, and Lichuan.
Preliminary research shows that the coronavirus was passed on to humans from snakes in the Wuhan seafood market.
Michael Ryan, head of the WHO emergency program, said nearly three-quarters of confirmed cases occurred in people aged over 40, with four out of ten having an underlying health condition. (jib)
Steve Bannon is pushing debunked claims about the coronavirus that are linked to his billionaire benefactor

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon has pushed a debunked theory about the origins of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China on his daily radio broadcast War Room: Pandemic. The claim echoes fake news pushed by G News, a website that has reportedly paid him at least $1 million for consulting and offered him a position as senior editor.
War Room: Pandemic launched on January 25 as a spin-off to War Room: Impeachment, Bannon’s rapid response operation defending President Donald Trump during his Senate impeachment trial. Since the new show began, Bannon has repeatedly pushed the false narrative that the coronavirus was leaked from a covert biological weapons program at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which includes a secure research facility where scientists study highly contagious and infectious diseases.
The unfounded narrative that the coronavirus was engineered and leaked from the lab has been wholly rejected by experts, with The Washington Post labeling it a “fringe theory,” PolitiFact calling the claim made in the G News article “false,” and Foreign Policy describing it as “an outbreak of nonsense.” Rutgers University professor of chemical biology Richard Ebright told the Post that “based on the virus genome and properties there is no indication whatsoever that it was an engineered virus.”
But evidence is no object when Bannon is on a mission to propagandize. On the podcast, Bannon has repeatedly cited stories by Bill Gertz in the Washington Times that suggest, based on speculations from a single source, that the Wuhan Institute of Virology is researching biowarfare, and that the coronavirus was engineered and leaked from there. Bannon kicked off the show’s inaugural episode by interviewing Gertz to promote his flimsy reporting.
BuzzFeed recently reported on Bannon’s ties to G News, a digital media outlet launched by Chinese billionaire-in-exile Guo Wengui that has also published two false stories about how the coronavirus was first introduced to residents of Wuhan. One G News story falsely alleged that the Chinese government would imminently confess that the virus was genetically engineered and leaked from a lab near the densely populated city. The other included a document purporting to validate a conspiracy theory that the Chinese military spread the disease on purpose.
Bannon’s contracts with the project were first reported in October by Axios, which showed that he had signed on to serve as a consultant for one year starting in August 2018 and was to be compensated at least $1 million. Axios also reported on a second, unsigned contract that specified Bannon would serve as a senior editor for G News starting in August 2019. According to BuzzFeed, “Guo and Bannon frequently appear together in videos on G News that attack the Chinese government.” (According to The New York Times, Guo described his connection to Bannon in a 2018 interview: “We both naturally despise the Chinese Communist Party. That’s why we’ve become partners.”) Episodes of War Room: Pandemic are also cross-posted to the G News website.
Israeli scientists: ‘In a few weeks, we will have coronavirus vaccine’

Michael_Novakhov shared this story .

Israeli scientists are on the cusp of developing the first vaccine against the novel
, according to Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis. If all goes as planned, the vaccine could be ready within a few weeks and available in 90 days, according to a release.
“Congratulations to MIGAL [The Galilee Research Institute] on this exciting breakthrough,” Akunis said. “I am confident there will be further rapid progress, enabling us to provide a needed response to the grave global COVID-19 threat,” Akunis said, referring to the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
For the past four years, a team of MIGAL scientists has been developing a
against infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), which causes a bronchial disease affecting poultry. The effectiveness of the vaccine has been proven in preclinical trials carried out at the Veterinary Institute.
MIGAL is located in the Galilee.
“Our basic concept was to develop the technology and not specifically a vaccine for this kind or that kind of virus,” said Dr. Chen Katz, MIGAL’s biotechnology group leader. “The scientific framework for the vaccine is based on a new protein expression vector, which forms and secretes a chimeric soluble protein that delivers the viral antigen into mucosal tissues by self-activated endocytosis, causing the body to form antibodies against the virus.”

Endocytosis is a cellular process in which substances are brought into a cell by surrounding the material with cell membrane, forming a vesicle containing the ingested material.
In preclinical trials, the team demonstrated that the oral vaccination induces high levels of specific anti-IBV antibodies, Katz said.
“Let’s call it pure luck,” he said. “We decided to choose coronavirus as a model for our system just as a proof of concept for our technology.”
But after scientists sequenced the DNA of the novel coronavirus causing the current worldwide outbreak, the MIGAL researchers examined it and found that the poultry coronavirus has high genetic similarity to the human one, and that it uses the same infection mechanism, which increases the likelihood of achieving an effective human vaccine in a very short period of time, Katz said.
“All we need to do is adjust the system to the new sequence,” he said. “We are in the middle of this process, and hopefully in a few weeks we will have the vaccine in our hands. Yes, in a few weeks, if it all works, we would have a vaccine to prevent coronavirus.”
MIGAL would be responsible for developing the new vaccine, but it would then have to go through a regulatory process, including clinical trials and large-scale production, Katz said.
Akunis said he has instructed his ministry’s director-general to fast-track all approval processes with the goal of bringing the human vaccine to market as quickly as possible.
“Given the urgent global need for a human coronavirus vaccine, we are doing everything we can to accelerate development,” MIGAL CEO David Zigdon said. The vaccine could “achieve safety approval in 90 days,” he said.
It will be an oral vaccine, making it particularly accessible to the general public, Zigdon said.
“We are currently in intensive discussions with potential partners that can help accelerate the in-human trials phase and expedite completion of final-product development and regulatory activities,” he said.

Former Mossad, Shin Bet heads call Netanyahu ‘a danger’ who puts country at risk | The Times of Israel

THE REAL COUP WAS IN 2016 | THE PSYCHOANALYSIS OF INTELLIGENCE OPERATIONS

Image result for Rightist wing of the GOP
The real Coup was in 2016, and it was performed by the corrupt, pro neo-Nazi oriented, Abwehr bought and subverted, the Rightist wing of the GOP, the Broidy-Manafort ring in its latest reincarnation; and by the other alumni of the Abwehr Law School, a.k.a. Roy Cohn’s Law Firm: Little Duce Giuliani, “dirty trickster” Roger Stone, and their circles, climbing and clawing their ways to Power and Money. And apparently, some officers of the New York Branch of the FBI were their ideological and operational “stormtroopers”. Search the Anthony Weiner sexting affair scandal as FBI operation, much under-researched, under-investigated, and under-publicized.
If only a part of all these legitimate and well based suspicions and accusations against the New York branch of the FBI are proven or sufficiently demonstrated, this question would be quite legitimate: Was at least a part of the NY FBI branch corrupt, rotten, in Trump’s pocket, and under possible influences of the foreign agents?

Investigate the “STORMTROOPERS” – the alleged “pro-Trumpists” within the NY branch of the FBI, and look into the general health of the whole branch.

Investigate James Kallstrom and others!

Investigate the Abwehr – Roy Cohn Law School and all its “graduates”.

Investigate the political corruption in both parties. Investigate the corruption and failures within the FBI, and their root causes. The proof is in the pudding, sadly but undeniably.
